Our Own Mayor! Mayor LaToya Cantrell is the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans. She was sworn into office on May 7, 2018. Prior to serving as mayor, Cantrell was a member of the New Orleans City Council in Louisiana, representing District B. She was first elected to the council to serve a partial term in a special election on December 8, 2012. She was elected to a full term on February 1, 2014
